It is with great emotion that Mr Jean-Claude Marcourt, President of the Parliament of Wallonia and of the Conference of European Regional Legislative Assemblies (CALRE), learned of the death of Mr David Maria Sassoli, President of the European Parliament, which occurred on 11 January 2022.
In a letter addressed to members of the Bureau of the European Parliament, President Marcourt assured that he would keep the memory of a man of conviction, respectful of all and committed to the service of the collective interest.
Mr Marcourt recalled that being particularly attentive to the place of the regions in the European decision-making process, President Sassoli had recently expressed his support for the drafting of a memorandum of understanding between the European Parliament and CALRE. He made a commitment, in his memory, to work personally for the proper application of this bilateral agreement which aims at better coordinating the respective work of the European Parliament and the CALRE, to develop contacts between the members of the organizations and share the respective experiences and expertise.
On behalf of the CALRE, President Marcourt offered his sincere condolences to the European Parliament.

C’est avec une vive émotion que M. Jean-Claude Marcourt, Président du Parlement de Wallonie et de la Conférence des assemblées législatives des régions d’Europe (CALRE), a appris le décès de M. David Maria Sassoli, Président du Parlement européen, survenu ce 11 janvier 2022.
Dans un courrier adressé aux membres du Bureau du Parlement européen, le Président Marcourt a assuré garder le souvenir d’un homme de conviction, respectueux de tous et engagé au service de l’intérêt collectif.
M. Marcourt a tenu à rappeler que particulièrement attentif à la place des régions dans le processus décisionnel européen, le Président Sassoli avait récemment marqué son soutien à l’élaboration d’un mémorandum d’entente entre le Parlement européen et la CALRE. Il a pris l’engagement, en sa mémoire, d’œuvrer personnellement à la bonne application de cet accord bilatéral qui a pour objectifs de mieux coordonner les travaux respectifs du Parlement européen et de la CALRE, de développer des contacts entre les membres des organisations et de partager les expériences et expertises respectives.
