The fourth-year team of high school of the Garoé centre, from El Hierro islands won the II Regional Contest of School Debate that was held in the Parliament of the Canary Islands, in which the seven winning teams were cited from the island phases, presenting and defending a non-law proposal (NLP) based on the UN’s development goal number 11, relating to sustainable cities and communities.
Thus, the students Aitana Bellveser Armas, Daniel Benítez Correa, Paula Padrón Anceaume, Pablo Zamora Morales, Víctor Adrián Rodríguez Morales and Melanie Cifuentes Albano will represent the Canary Islands in the national phase to be held on June 25 in the Senate.
The fourth-year team of Las Salinas centre, from Lanzarote, which achieved the second place in the contest, was composed of the students Bárbara Díaz González, Adriana García Rodríguez, Aday Auyanet Ybot, Sheyla Núñez Ojeda, Aroa Pineda Cao and Abraham Pumarada Hernández and presented an NLP on goal number 5, related to gender equality. The third position was for the fourth-year ESO team from El Sobradillo centre, from Tenerife, formed by Melody Silva Piña Brito, Juan Vicente Zaya Alonso, José Luis Sánchez Ángel, Andrea Cruz Fernández, Adriana Concepción García and Carolina Torres Vázquez, who brought a non-law proposal also related to SDG 5.
The participants of the IES Gran Tarajal from Fuerteventura and Luis Cobiella Cuevas from La Palma, as well as those of the CEO Santiago Apóstol from La Gomera and the CPEIPS Nuestra Señora de las Nieves from Gran Canaria received, as did the winners, a diploma accrediting their participation in the regional debate contest.
